Early Bird Fee (ends 31st May):

Students – 200 Euro

Industry Professionals – 250 Euro

Regular Fee (from 1st June to 17th August, where registrations when close)

Students – 250 Euro

Industry Professionals – 350 Euro

Cancellation and Refund Policy:

100% refund, if requested on or before 30th April.

50% refund, if requested between 1st May and 17th July.

No refunds will be issued after 17th July.

Course Description: 

The Carlow Training School is an intensive, hands‑on, two‑day workshop on understanding Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC), and how to identify and manage it effectively.

It brings together leading international experts who break down the core theories into understandable segments and show how these theories apply to real-world corrosion problems and assessment techniques. The course also demonstrates how to generate, capture and use microbiological data. With these skills, participants are better equipped to design, plan, and implement targeted, evidence‑based, MIC mitigation and management strategies.

The programme is book-ended by recommended cultural experiences in Carlow and the surrounding areas. Further suggestions are provided in:

The training will cover:

● Fundamentals of MIC and corrosion of metals

● Corrosion management practices and standards

● Case studies from industrial and marine environments

● Sampling theory and data interpretation

● Advanced integration of microbiological evidence with engineering approaches

By combining lectures, interactive workshops, and real-world case discussions, the programme aims to strengthen technical competencies in corrosion control, microbial analysis, and process management and mitigation. This MIC workshop initiative supports knowledge transfer between academia and industry, fostering innovation and relevant best practices in infrastructure preservation.

The technical topics for the two-day programme:

Wednesday (2nd September) – arrival

Thursday (3rd September) – Day 1 of the course

  • 08:00-17:00                    Whole day (arrival, registration, networking, coffee breaks, lunch break, training lessons)
  • 19:00-your choice         Social dinner – BBQ (included in the fee)
 
  • Lessons’ content:
    • What is MIC? (Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion)
    • Introduction to corrosion of metals
    • Corrosion management and MIC assessment
    • Standards workshop
 

Friday (4th September) – Day 2 of the course

  • 08:00-17:00                    Whole day (arrival, networking, coffee breaks, lunch break, training lessons)
 
  • Lessons’ content:
    • Case studies: corrosion management and marine corrosion
    • Theory of sampling (short version)
    • Integration of microbiological data with other lines of evidence
    • Wrap-up and evaluation (including quiz and certificate)
 

Saturday (5th September) – Full day Social Program is being developed by the organisers

  • Potential topics are castle visit, guided tours, brewery visit and local cuisine.
  • This day is OPTIONAL, but we hope many will stay in Carlow for the Saturday for the social programme before we head to EUROCORR ’26 on the Sunday.
  • Details will be communicated as we get closer to the event.
