Summary of the experiences and competences of Andre
Andre Abilio: Engineer in Training (EIT) by the Association of Professional Engineers of Alberta (APEGA) with 4 years of experience with data management of microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) in the oil and gas sector. MSc in MIC by the University of Alberta (UofA, Canada), BSc in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering by the State University of Northern Rio de Janeiro (UENF, Brazil) and the University of New South Wales (UNSW, Australia), and Technology Diploma in Mechanical Engineering by the Federal Institute of Science, Education and Technology of Northern Rio de Janeiro (IFF, Brazil). Mr. Abilio is the Co-Chair of Working Group 3 (WG3) on the ‘development of innovative monitoring technologies’, and a member of AMPP/NACE standard comitte 22 (SC 22) on Biodeterioration.
Looking for help? Andre can help you with the following items
With knowledge over the different layers of evidence required to diagnostically assess MIC and the challenges related to gathering such pieces of evidence, Mr. Abilio is able to provide inputs on which parameters might be used as potential data, and how to integrate pieces of data, in order to acquire reliable and diagnostic assessments.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Engineering Research Assistant, Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC)
Jul 2018 – Sep 2022
University of Alberta and Alberta Energy Regulator – Edmonton AB, Canada
- Field experience with ILI and sampling of corrosion products for evaluation of monitoring programs
- Analyzed data associated with 500+ failure investigations, corrosion probes, ultrasonic thickness tests
- Translated inspection data to key performance indicators to drive corrosion assessments and reviews
- Client-faced operators, service providers, and regulators globally to understand customer requirements and improve MIC integrity programs
- Built up technical writing and presentation skills by developing a standard appendix on risk-based inspection (RBI) of MIC (DNV G101)
- Built a risk-based (API 580/API 581) scoring tool to rank the susceptibility of microbiologically influenced corrosion to drive inspection plans and integrity management programs
- Was exposed to inspection reports, codes, standards, integrity management programs when at the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) Edmonton Branch
Achievements
- Developed a practical tool to improve score MIC susceptibility
- Developed of a MATLAB neural network model for MIC failure diagnosis
- Collaborated with regulator, operators, and service providers for regulatory improvement
- Published a book chapter on best practices for MIC failure analysis investigations
Operations and Maintenance Engineer Co-op
Aug 2016 – Jul 2017
Halliburton – Macae RJ, Brazil
- Developed a strong health, safety, and environment (HSE) oriented mindset by handling and following quality management systems, various procedures, manuals and standards in a fast-paced environment
- Maintained the integrity of pressure relief valves and pressure tools according to internal procedures
- Carried out integrity hydrotest for cementing wellheads and pressure tools
- Provided engineering support in failure analysis and materials selection to improve corrosion resistance of offshore equipment
- Performed laboratory quality testing to oilfield cement, slurry formulation and sample preparation
- Saved R$250,000 by writing technical asset description bulletins for tax waivers
- Mapped and developed the safety analyses and risk assessments for the casing worksite increasing time process efficiency
- Transitioned to multiple roles (cementing lab, casing equipment and iron maintenance) being able to rapidly adapt to and communicate with professionals at all organisational levels
Achievements
- Created a spreadsheet-based database for management of spare parts linked to the company SAP
- Delivered a dedicated talk on best practices for corrosion prevention
- Led field workers into safer culture by actively providing HSE related inputs over daily briefings
