Summary of the experiences and competences of Jizhou

I am Jizhou Duan, a scientist at the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. I lead a research team focused on understanding the mechanisms of microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) and developing innovative techniques for its diagnosis and mitigation, particularly in marine environments. We have successfully isolated several key corrosion-related bacterial strains from marine habitats, including sulfate-reducing bacteria, sulfur-oxidizing bacteria, and both iron-reducing and iron-oxidizing bacteria. Our approach integrates these isolated microbial strain studies, electrochemical testing, mineralogy analysis, and molecular techniques to elucidate the corrosion mechanisms involved. Additionally, we are investigating MIC within complex engineered systems, particularly in scenarios involving biocides in oil and gas pipelines. Our research aims to provide industry managers with evidence-based recommendations for effective mitigation strategies.
