Summary of the experiences and competences of Francisco L.
I’m a Biotechnologist, doctor in Basic Sciences, specialized in Environmental Biotechnologies. My Grade Thesis and PhD Thesis focused on heavy metal remediation and recovery using extremophilic microbial communities, related to bioremediation and biomining. Through these studies I’ve acquired a lot of knowledge about the interaction between microorganisms and metals, particularly about microbial metabolisms such as chemolithotroph. Currently, I am expanding and applying my experience in postdoctoral research in Y-TEC (Argentina). My research focus on Microbial Control in the Oil & Gas industry, particularly on microbial-induced corrosion (diagnostics, monitoring and mitigation strategies); but also, I am very interested in Energy Transition and how biotechnology can help promote and implement new energies.

The research group I am part of is investing a lot of working capital in searching and developing new green antimicrobial products, specially, since it is known that most classic-commercial chemical products are not effective against biofilms, which are the major hazards in MIC. Furthermore, the use of green products may have a beneficial effect on sustainability and on the environmental impact of the antimicrobial production chain.
Throughout my career as a Biotechnologist I have acquired particular knowledge about microbiology, biochemistry and biomolecules production, which is key to the development of innovative ecological products.
