Markus is a member within the Euro-MIC COST framework. This project is funded by the European Union and enables scientists to bridge knowledge and capabilities across countries and disciplines.

Summary of the experiences and competences of Markus

I am working in the field of corrosion and corrosion protection for more than 30 years. During that time, I have performed extensive investigation of the corrosion of pipelines under cathodic protection exposed to AC and DC interference as well as aggressive environments as they are generated by bacterial activity. This work has been performed in the laboratory but was also supplemented by extensive field investigation in cooperation with several major pipeline operators in Europe.

Looking for help? Markus can help you with the following items

My background on corrosion protection, the development of a thermodynamic and kinetic model of the associated processes can help in identifying influencing parameters of bacterial activity. Based on my experience with simulated bacterial environments (i.e. by adding the metabolic products to the electrolyte) we managed to mimic bacterial corrosion in the lab in absence of microbes. Sharing these results and discussing the associated conclusion will improve the understanding of associated processes and facilitate the development of new protection methods.
